It's hard to believe Mazda's FD3S RX-7 is two decades old. Far few are design that have stood the test of time. The RX-7 we're featuring here belongs to a young man in Japan who built the car from the ground up to be street driven and purely functional.

The RX-7 was never a feature packed model so removing weight typically comes down to removing the stereo, trimming excess wiring and installing light weight race seats. The receipt was followed to the T.
Under the hood is where this RX-7 gets interesting. No, you won't find an LS-1.

Instead you'll find one of the few Scoot 26B quad rotor engines in existence and from our understanding is actually the only peripheral port 26B powered street car in Japan. Why are we making such a big deal over the rotary engine?
Simply put, this quad rotor 26B is essentially the same engine found in the legendary Mazda 787B. You know, this 787B. The Mazda race car found in every legitimate racing simulation ever developed.
This is what it looks like on the streets of Japan. Have a look.

And then have a listen to what that 26B sounds like under throttle...

The RX7 is surely aging well, great looking car. Fun fact. The RX7 was one of the cars that inspired the design of the C5 Corvette.
